Blog Post #7: Can Racism be Stopped

One huge social issue that the world has been facing for many years is racism. Racism is something I feel strongly about because it’s an everyday thing that happens. We haven’t reached a point in history where racism wasn’t a problem. Up until this day there have been people severely injured due to racism. For instance, the whole COVID- 19 out break created racism towards Asians. There was a time when someone went to an Asian family and gave them large cuts on their faces.

Racism needs to be stopped, and the only way is for everyone to be more accepting towards others. If we don’t make a change now and put an end to this, then there will be many people who will put matters into their own hands. This issue has really affected many children because they are very sensitive. There have been cases where children have taken their lives because of this. Also, those who are being attacked will create suicide if not, their hatred will build. Once their hatred builds, they will go after those who made their lives dreadful. This will create mobs and these mobs will spread world wide and the country will more than likely consists of civil wars and possibly wars with other countries if it doesn’t end.

There really isn’t a concrete way to settle racism. However, the president can pass a law where people can be punished. This punishment will not involve prison or jail time. Simply because that would be too exaggerated. Though, those who are being racist can be sentenced to any amount of community hours. This way people are more considerate, and they will soon get tired of making their racist comments. Another option would be helping those being attacked, and they will help them with anything they need.

  1. Carla, you made very good points in your blog post. Racism is a very concerning social issue that our nation has always struggled with in the past. I also agree with you that racism needs to be stopped. People should just become more accepting of others no matter what they look like or where they come from. Many people are discriminated against because of their color. I also agree with you that it is hard to find a solution to racism because in our history many actions were taken to stop racism, but today it continues. The solution you suggested can help contribute to the end of racism. I really enjoyed reading your blog post and I look forward to reading your next post.

  2. Carla,

Overall your topic is very unique and I can agree with it. By my word choice “unique” I mean, not everyone is open to speaking upon that topic. Many people believe racism isn’t an issue, but I certainly agree with you that it is. I also agree that around this time, due to Coronavirus, racism has increased. Many people stereotype Chinese/Asians and make them feel guilty. I don’t think racism is right in any shape or form. What irritates me the most is when people joke around and offend people, but don’t admit being racist. I also agree with you that there isn’t a concrete way to end racism. With the help and effort of everyone accepting each other can help. Overall, I enjoyed reading today’s post.

  3. Carla,

There are laws that protect people from discrimination and physical harm (like the family who was assaulted). Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of ramifications for saying racist or hateful things to our about someone, and this is a problem. Where there aren’t consequences for someone’s actions, or when people don’t fear repercussions, things get worse for minorities, people of color, etc. There aren’t easy answers or solutions, but making racism something punishable by law and to feel ashamed of would be a good place to start. Great post this week, and I hope you’re well.
