Advertisements main purpose is to grab viewers attention and to persuade people to buy objects that might not even be needed. They usually create catchy slogans, use models that are in top shape or they even create a new definition of happiness. In today’s society it is very common to see ads everywhere we go. They are along the freeways, magazines, social media (ex: Instagram, Facebook, twitter, etc.); therefore, we can agree that ads have become a big part of our lives. In other words, ads play a big role when shaping our identity and the way we see things. A great example would be young teenagers. During this stage, teens are figuring out who they are and what they like/dislike. Teenagers can be easily manipulated especially if the person they look up is posting ads on their feed. For instance, a celebrity posting an ad about tea that helped them lose weight. You can’t lie and say that you haven’t tried to look for a quicker way to reach your body weight goal. Many people (including teens) are seeking to look for an easy way to lose weight, and if the celebrity shows their progress then their fans/ viewers will purchase the item being advertised. Another example would be music promotions. Whenever artists create new albums, their views will repost and share the album with their friends/ followers. This allows others to be exposed to different types of genres. This can help people see others music preference, and they will see whether or not they have the same music taste. Many of us have at least posted on our social media stories asking our followers/friends to send music recommendations to get that exposure to new music. To sum up, we could say that ads have major influences with our purchases and thought process because we see them in our day to day lives and they can easily manipulate us to making decisions that reflect our identity.
I agree that teens are the people easily targeted when it comes to advertisements because they can easily fall and believe anything they see in social media. I personally fall into the tricks advertisements use especially when there’s a celebrity to promote a product or clothing. I get hooked on thinking that whatever the product is that it’s going to benefit me just because the celebrity uses it. When I get bored of the music I am listening to, I ask friends or ask in social media any new music recommendations not caring about the genre of music. Sometimes it’s fun to hear music I don’t normally listen to just to explore more. I agree that ads can easily manipulate us and in a way it reflects our identity.

I really like how well written your post was. It was very straight to the point and easy to understand. I also really liked the fact that you had multiple examples of how ads can be dangerous towards viewers. The example that caught my attention the most was the one about celebrities and models in the media. I definitely feel that I have been effected by those advertisements and know plenty of other people that have been as well. Overall, I enjoyed your post a lot and liked how you structured it.
